after / time is pleased to present Uncertainty surrounds the holding of things, an exhibition of works by sixteen artists. Set within a shifting material landscape, the exhibition invites viewers to consider the lives of objects and the ways they persist, transform, and resist containment within constructs of time,

narrative, and value. Through a constellation of artistic practices engaging with themes of permanence, duration, and material reinvention, the works explore the active and indeterminate nature of matter.

In a culture that privileges immediacy, possession, and fixity, the exhibition foregrounds the inherent vitality of materials. Here, objects are not passive or inert, but true participants in the worlds they inhabit. Acts of making and presenting thus become perceptual gestures, reminders that our grasp of things, and of the material world at large, is tentative, porous, always provisional.

The exhibition unfolds as a choreography of matter, time, and material animacy. These works blur the line between subject and object, inviting viewers into a space of attunement, where materials speak and meaning emerges through encounter.

What responsibilities do we bear toward the objects in our lives? What stories and silences do they carry? What shifts when we acknowledge the agency and precarity of things?

In insisting on ambiguity and escaping objectality, these works remind us that things are fugitive, errant, unruly – alive in their uncertainty.
